Rehabilitation Engineering Research Center on Technology Transfer (T2RERC)

This is a federally funded Center whose mission is to facilitate the transfer and commercialization of innovative technologies to the marketplace for people with disabilities and the elderly. The T2RERC website provides an overview of the technology transfer process as it relates to assistive and trans-generational technology.

National Center for Medical and Rehabilitation Research

The mission of the NCMRR (a division of the National Institute of Child Health & Human Development) is to foster development of scientific knowledge needed to enhance the health, productivity, independence, and quality of life of persons with disabilities. This is accomplished by supporting research on enhancing the functioning of people with disabilities in daily life.

National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR)

As part of the Department of Education, the mission of the NIDRR is to generate, disseminate and promote new knowledge to improve the options available to disabled persons. The ultimate goal is to allow these individuals to perform their regular activities in the community and to bolster society’s ability to provide full opportunities and appropriate supports for its disabled citizens. Toward this end, NIDRR conducts comprehensive and coordinated programs of research and related activities to maximize the full inclusion, social integration, employment and independent living of individuals of all ages with disabilities. NIDRR’s focus includes research in areas such as employment; health and function; technology for access and function; independent living and community integration; and other associated disability research areas.

National Science Foundation, Biomedical Engineering Program and Research to Aid Persons with Disabilities Program (BME/RAPD)

This Federal organization supports research, often with diagnosis or treatment-related goals that applies engineering principles to problems in biology and medicine while advancing the engineering knowledge base. Integration of engineering expertise with life science principles is an essential requirement for advances in this field. The BME program emphasizes basic engineering research that contributes to better and more efficient health care delivery. The RAPD program emphasizes basic engineering research that aids persons with disabilities.

Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology Association of North America

This is an interdisciplinary association of people with a common interest in technology and disability.  The purpose is to improve the potential of people with disabilities to achieve their goals through the use of technology.  The organization serves that purpose by promoting research, development, education, advocacy and provision of technology; and by supporting the people engaged in these activities.
